David Collings started training in Shaolin Kempo in 1984 at age 13 with twin brother Jason under Master Bill Mailman. He competed successfully in many tournaments but was drawn to teaching at an early age. He started teaching in Master Mailman's school at age 15 as a brown belt. His father Michael started training with him and Jason in 1986.

David sttained 1st degree Black Belt in 1987 at age 16 and at the age of18 (2nd degree black belt) he started developing his own teaching style and adjustments and modifications to the Shaolin Kempo style. David also started developing his own self defense and weapon defense techniques. He became Head Instructor in Master Mailman's 2nd school(Los Altos) in 1989

• Was Master Mailman's number two until the first Collings Martial arts school was opened in the Bixby Knolls area with brother Jason and father Michael Collings. in 1992.

• Begins training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu with Royce Gracie in 1994

• Was promoted to Master (5th degree) in 1998.

• Established and became Head Master of Martial Arts Training Alliance Shaolin Kempo Karate system in 2002.

• Begins training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Roger Machado in 2004 (meets Roger Dalbianco)

• Promoted Father to 5th degree (Master) in 2005

• Father passes away in 2006

• New Los Altos facility is opened in 2007 and is dedicated to the memory of Master Michael Collings

• Was promoted to 6th degree black belt by Master Mailman in 2008.
